This dataset lists 1690 Dorset people giving evidence in Chancery court cases. It also includes a small number of people from other counties.

It was transcribed by SoG member Darris Williams from 23 volumes of 'Bernau notes'. These contain information on deponents in Chancery classes C11, C 22 and E 134.

The notebooks seem to contain different information from those held by the Society in the Lower library. A spot check of one case (C 11/1366/1 Play dell v Larder)showed 31 deponents in this dataset, whereas the Bernau notebooks held by the SoG listed somewhat less. Neither the plaintiff nor defendants appear to be listed in this daset.
