1. Items in square brackets [ ] are the transcriber's comments/observations; they do not form part of the register.
2. Bishop's and Archdeacon's Transcripts [BT AT] have been checked where these have survived (lists of which appear below), and differences from the registers noted. They add important extra information, especially in helping to fill in the gap in the registers from 1715-1726.
3. Place names are as they occur in the registers, and have not been put into modern form.
4. Surnames have been recorded as they appear in the original register and so all variant spellings will have to be checked. A list of at least some of the variant spellings is given below.
